The function of St Matthew’s Parish Council is to support the clergy, to represent the views of parishioners and to facilitate parishioners in playing a part in the Parish and in the wider world. As such, the Council discusses every aspect of Parish life, spiritual, pastoral, practical and social.
The Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Secretary are elected at the Annual General Meeting of the whole Parish. This usually takes place in March or April, nominations for officers being invited a fortnight beforehand. The Chairman of the Finance Committee and representatives of Parish organisations and other groups of parishioners make up the rest of the Council along with the Parish Priest, the Assistant Priest and the RE Coordinator but meetings are normally open to all parishioners and a great way to get involved in the life of the Parish. Newcomers are sure of a warm welcome!
The Council usually meets on the first Monday of alternate months. The agenda and minutes of the previous meeting are posted on the noticeboard in the porch.
